SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS
- Scholarships and Grants do not need to be repaid.

Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG): A federal grant for students with exceptional financial need and is eligible for the Federal Pell Grant and graduated from high school after January 2006. Must have passed certain curriculum requirements in high school. Minimum enrollment is 6 credits.

Charles E. Hemenway Scholarship (HEM): For bonafide resident of Hawaii. Requires a personal statement and a letter of recommendation in addition to the FAFSA; minimum enrollment is 6 credits. Applications available upon request at the Financial Aid Office.

Federal Pell Grant (PELL): A federal grant for students who have not yet received a Bachelor's Degree.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG): A federal grant for students with exceptional financial need and is eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. Minimum enrollment is 6 credits.

Hawaii Student Incentive Grant (HSIG): A federal grant with matching state funds, which waives tuition. For bonafide Hawaii residents who are eligible for the Pell Grant and enrolled for at least 6 credits.

Hawaii Veterans Memorial Fund (HIVET): For bonafide resident of Hawaii enrolled full-time. Requires a personal statement and a letter of recommendation in addition to the FAFSA; must be enrolled for 12 credits. Applications available upon request at the Financial Aid Office

Ruth E. Black Scholarship (BLACK): For a student whose parents are/were a part of the construction industry. Requires a separate application in addition to the FAFSA; must be a bonafide resident of Hawaii and enrolled for at least 6 credits. Applications available upon request at the Financial Aid Office.

State of Hawaii B Plus Scholarship: For incoming freshmen who graduate from a local high school the Spring semester immediately preceding the academic year in which the student begins enrollment; must be a bonafide resident of Hawaii and enrolled for at least 6 credits.

Tuition Waivers (TW): State funds which waive tuition costs for bonafide residents of Hawaii who are enrolled for at least 6 credits see the Financial Aid Office for more details.
LOANS
- Loans must be repaid within the agreed period.

Federal Perkins Loan (PERK): A federal loan with annual simple interest of 5%. Interest begins 9 months after student ceases to be enrolled for at least 6 credits.

Federal PLUS Loan (PLUS): A federal loan from a commercial lender for parents of dependent students. Interest rate is variable and repayment begins within 60 days of after loan is disbursed. The student must be enrolled for at least 6 credits. FAFSA not required.

State Higher Education Loan (SHEL): Must be a bonafide resident of Hawaii. A state loan with an annual 5% simple interest. Interest begins 9 months after the student ceases to be enrolled for at least 6 credits.

Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan (STAF): A federal loan from a commercial lender with interest subsidized while the student is in school at least half time. The interest rate is variable and is subject to change annually in July. Repayment begins six months after the student ceases to be enrolled at least half time. Requires a separate application in addition to the FAFSA. Student must attend a loan entrance appointment every year before the application is processed.

Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan (USTAF): A federal loan from a commercial lender with interest that is not subsidized while the student is in school at least half time. The interest rate is variable and is subject to change annually in July. Requires a separate application in addition to the FAFSA. Student must attend a loan entrance appointment every year before the application is processed.
EMPLOYMENT

Federal Work Study Program (FWSP): Student receives priority for part-time on-campus employment. Student must monitor earnings based on FWSP award. Minimum enrollment is 6 credits.
