UH System Presidential Selection

A search is underway to select an individual to succeed David McClain as president of the University of Hawai‘i System. McClain has led the 10-campus system since 2004; his term of appointment concludes on July 31, 2009. An advisory committee appointed by the Board of Regents will begin review of applicants and nominees on Feb. 20, 2009.

Message from the Advisory Committee

Feb. 9, 2009—The UH Advisory Presidential Selection Committee welcomes you to the University of Hawai‘i’s presidential search website.

This is an exciting time as we select a new leader who will work with the 10 campuses and the communities throughout our state to further advance the educational, research and public service missions of the university system.

We hope you will use this website to track the progress of the search. For community members and those of you from inside the UH family, this will be the place to find up-to-date information on the progress of the search.

For those potentially interested in the position, the website will be home to reports and brochures about the university and our communities, including our Native Hawaiian community. Please note the listening tours section for recent feedback from a number of UH constituent groups.

Applications and nominations are encouraged to be submitted by Feb. 20, 2009, although the position will remain open until filled. Directions for how to apply appear on the Information for Candidates page.

The advisory committee is assisted by Alberto Pimentel and Sharon Tanabe of the search firm of Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates. You can learn more about the backgrounds of the advisory committee members on this website.

We look forward to sharing our progress with you and working with the Board of Regents, so that the regents may announce a new president by July, if not before.
