Step up and make a difference!

Hawaii continues to have a critical shortage of trained teachers within the public school system. Research indicates that teacher quality is one of the most influential factors in student achievement. The mission of the Leeward CC STEP program is to recruit and support local students into becoming highly qualified teachers for students in their own communities.

The STEP program is a teacher preparation program that supports students who are interested in pursuing a career in elementary, secondary, and special education. The STEP program prepares students to successfully achieve the Associate in Arts in Teaching and provides a solid foundation for those interested in pursuing a baccalaureate degree in Education.

The STEP program offers the following support opportunities for developing teachers:

• Explorations in Teaching weekly seminars
• Counseling/Advising Services
• Service Learning experiences
• LCC Future Teachers Club
