AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Tutor
Tutors are essential to the success of the AVID elective class, where they facilitate student access to rigorous curriculum. As students from colleges and universities, tutors receive formal training and also serve as role models. AVID students who continue their education in college often return to the program as tutors.
Tutors will be working in a 7th grade classroom setting with an AVID teacher. The student to tutor ratio should be no more than 7:1. Training will be provided for all AVID tutors, prior to entering classroom.

Pay: $8.00 an hour. 2 days a week from 11:55a.m.-1:20p.m. for 36 weeks
About AVID:
AVID is an acronym that stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. This is a new program being introduced to Nanakuli High and Intermediate School's 7th grade students. AVID's mission is to ensure that ALL students and most especially the least served students who are in the middle will:
* Succeed in rigorous curriculum
*complete rigorous prepatory path
* enter mainstream activities of the school
*increase their enrollment in four yeal colleges
* become educated and responsible particpants and leaders in a democratic society.

Position: Tutors/Student Facilitators
Location: Leilehua High School

Student Facilitators/Tutors- Campbell High School
Position: Student Facilitators/Tutors
Location: Campbell High School
Tutors are needed to help 9th - 12th graders in core subjects. Subject core areas: all math levels up to Calc/AP calc may be needed in spring, Social Studies, English 9-12 and AP, Sciences (all including AP), foreign languages (Spanish, Japanese) tutorials - knowledge of subject is a plus but not mandatory.
Group size will range anywhere from 5 students to 8 or 9 students in a group, depending on subject and who needs tutoring in that area.
Hours are usually on Tues/Thursdays but there might be opportunities for schedules on other days/times. (Can work for 1 semester voluntary, assess where at and then can look at paying the tutors or can do it for community service and fulfill the college credit requirement.)

After-school Tutors Needed!
WizKids Learning Center in Pearl City needs tutors for elementary school students (primarily grades 4-6) from 2:15-7:30. 15-20 hours/week. $7.50/hour. Call Scott Evans at 455-5437 if interested.
Volunteer Tutors/Mentors Needed!
Hawaii National Guard Youth Challenge Academy in Kapolei needs volunteers to work with at-risk students aged 16-18 at tutors in math, science, and language arts. The Youth Challenge Academy is a voluntary 5-month residential program for male and female students who have dropped out of regular high school and are looking for one last chance. Duties: As a volunteer - act as a Big Brother or Big Sister to a younger student once a week for about an hour at their school of choice. As a site coordinator/site leader - facilitate the activities of the matches during sessions (once a week for about an hour) and any other coordinating responsibilities a Case Manager may ask of them. Positions are unpaid and require an application process including an interview and background check.

Subject Area: Mathematics (Specifically, applying the math to real-world situations. The math is generally on an eighth-grade level; fractions, decimals, measurements, some basic algebra, and applying these skills to specific tasks.)
Program Format: The program runs for six consecutive weeks and the participants will have study time scheduled in the evenings, generally between 6pm and 9pm. The tutoring would most likely be needed starting in the third week of instruction.

Electronics Technician / Classroom Aide
Full Time teacher’s aide position will assist in classroom & workshop sessions for the Tech Together Program.
