REFERENCE
SERVICES

The Reference Desk is located on Main floor of the library,
next to the Circulation Counter.
The Reference Desk is where you'll find the reference librarian. The librarians
all have master's degrees in librarianship, and are trained to help you use the
library effectively. Librarians know about the variety of information resources
available, and can direct you to the best one to suit your needs.
The librarians, like other members
of the faculty, have something to teach: information literacy. This means that
they do more than find answers to questions; they teach people how to find
answers for themselves. Not only does this promote academic success, but the
ability to find and evaluate information and to continually learn new things
after leaving school is important for success in life. Toward that goal, the
Library has an active library instruction program, which includes LCC's series
of self-paced
Library Skills Modules and Quizzes,
and instructional classes and workshops. You can also take a look at
Ho‘okele: University of Hawai‘i Library
Research Skills Tutorial. The library has other online
tutorials for students doing research in
particular subject areas, as well as for using particular research tools.
Resources available to researchers
include an extensive
reference collection,
the
Hawaii Voyager
online catalog system, a variety of
electronic databases, and
Internet search stations.
The library can often
arrange to have books and copies of articles to be brought in from other
libraries in the University of Hawaii system. Please see the librarian if you are
interested in this service.
