These tutorials and guides are optimized for viewing using Explorer Internet browser. Some tutorials may feature audio or video. You may still view these programs even if your computer does not have these capabilities. For PowerPoint presentations, if you are using Explorer, click on the small "screen" icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen. • Hawaii Voyager Library Catalog Tutorial
  The library catalog will give you the location and status of materials held in the library. From our library web page you can choose to search the LCC Library only or all of the University Libraries. EbscoHost is our primary resource for accessing magazine and journal articles. Many of the articles are provided in full text format. Below you will find a variety of tools to help you search the database more effectively.

• EbscoHost Basic Searching Guide
  This is a two page printable guide for searching the EbscoHost database. It is in PDF format and requires the free Adobe Acrobat reader for viewing and printing. If you don't have this software on your computer click to download the Windows or Mac version before viewing.

Below you will find a short video showing different levels of searching EbscoHost. You will need speakers or a headset attached to your computer for this presentation. You will not need any additional software. Wait for the program to load and follow on screen instructions

• Library Research Skills for Biology
  A guide to selecting a topic and selecting appropriate information sources. This guide was developed for the Biology 101 and 171 classes.

• Guide to Biological Information and Resources
  This guide provides basic concepts about science information, evaluation of web pages and writing science papers. Self test quizzes are included.

• ScienceDirect Tutorial
  These tutorials show how to perform basic and advanced searches, as well as use other features of the ScienceDirect database.  ScienceDirect provides searchable full text access to over 1,700 Elsevier Science journals from 1995 to the present.

• Coral Reefs (BIO 200)
  This guide was developed for the Biology 200 class on coral reef ecology. It provides information on finding background and current research trends information, how to access the current literature, how to do in-depth searching of periodical databases. Relevant information sources are suggested. This guide also introduces the use of Boolean logic for more effective databases searching.

• Food and Nutrition (FSHN 285)
  This guide was developed for the Food Science and Human Nutrition class. It provides basic information on the uses of books and periodicals, introduces searching techniques for the EbscoHost full text periodical database, provides guidance on the use of Internet resources, and suggests useful Internet resources for obtaining information related to human nutrition.
